The Blake School seeks to hire a part-time Upper School French teacher, with native or near-native French language proficiency, capable of teaching all levels of Upper School French, including heritage speakers. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in second language acquisition, successful high school classroom experience in a 100% target-language environment and a student-centered pedagogy. Candidates should be passionate about sharing their love of languages with students. Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes a community strong and empowers students to engage across differences. This is a part-time, benefits-eligible position, starting August 2020. The search committee will begin reviewing resumes immediately. Blake will typically cover the travel and lodging costs for finalist candidates visiting from out of town.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:
curriculum design, assessments, and instruction driven by ACTFL standards and language proficiency targets,
100% use of target language in the classroom,
experience with a variety of teaching strategies,
training in the teaching of a world language and knowledge of essential concepts of Second Language Acquisition,
native or near-native language skills,
involvement in ongoing professional development,
Because this position requires collaborative work with faculty in and out of the Modern and Classical Languages Department, excellent interpersonal skills and strong organizational ability are a must. Candidates should be ready to engage fully with the community-based experience of an independent school.
