We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Special Education Head Teacherto fill in as a maternity leave replacement from January through June 2020, with a possible option to continue. This candidate will work closely with two associate teachers in a classroom comprised of ten students with special needs. Please see the job responsibilities and requirements below.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Team player who thrives in an integrated and collaborative environment
Ability to foster a love of learning through inquiry-based experiences that promote independence and problem solving
Knowledge of the cognitive, linguistic, and developmental needs of students with special needs
Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) preferred
Experience with and knowledge of curriculums such as: Preventing Academic Failure (PAF) or other Orton-Gillingham reading programs, Math In Focus or Singapore Math, Writing Revolution/Hochman method to expository writing, Fountas and Pinnell reading levels and guided reading, New York State Common Core Standards in Social Studies, English Language Arts, and Mathematics

Master’s degree in Childhood Special Education
Minimum of four years of professional experience teaching young students with special needs
Previous Head Teacher experience
Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
You must be authorized to work in the United States and be willing to undergo a number of clearances including NYC DOE fingerprinting, a medical health form, and other background checks.
