Supervises: 2 Associate Directors of College Counseling and College Counseling Office Manager
Overall Function: To administer a comprehensive college counseling program for all students.
Essential Functions of the Position:
Student Counseling. Counsel students individually on the college search and application process, including self-exploration, academic planning, goal-setting, self-advocacy, and application review.
Counselor Recommendation Writing. Oversee and participate in the College Counseling Faculty Committee, which is responsible for writing comprehensive and creative counselor letters of recommendation for the senior class.
Constituency Education. Educate parents, students, faculty, administrators, and trustees regarding all aspects of the college application process, including on the use of Naviance, web-based counseling software.
Office Leadership. Mentor and lead the College Counseling staff.
Relationship Building. Consult regularly with college admissions representatives on current practices and admissions trends and to advocate on behalf of student applicants through phone conversations, email interactions, attendance at conferences, participation in visitation programs, and hosting college admissions representatives on campus. Additionally, proactively visit College and University campuses across the U.S. in order to promote WRA and its students while learning of current programming at each school.
Standardized Testing Programming. Administer four-year standardized testing program, including ACT, PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, AP Exams, and TOEFL, as well as standardized test preparation programming.
Professional Development. Pursue opportunities for professional growth and school exposure through participation in professional organizations such as the Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools (ACCIS), the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling (OACAC), the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS), the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), The College Board, the ACT, Naviance, and the like.
Budget Management. Oversee annual review and proposal process as well as implementation of annual budget.
Community Partnership. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement College Counseling programming and to advise on related areas of school life as well as serve on Executive, Planning, Enrollment Management, and Awards & Prizes Committees or any other ad hoc committees (hiring, accreditation, etc.) as necessary. Collaborate with the Academic Office regarding student scheduling to best position students for their college aspirations. Assist that Registrar with accurate record keeping of student testing results and transcript articulation.
Executive Committee Membership.Serve as an engaged and active member of the administrative leadership team, including as liaison to the College Counseling Sub-committee of the Board of Trustees. Model holistic institutional thinking and strategic planning. Create and reinforce positive professional practices and policies including the collection of data, providing analysis, and developing summary reports on processes and results within the College Counseling Office.
Hours of Work: This is a year-round, full-time position with on-campus housing. The typical expectation is a 40-hour work week, with the understanding that this leadership position is expected to model a work ethic that meets the needs of a 24/7 boarding school which will include evening and weekend hours and duties within the residential life program work.

Supporting the efforts of the admission office as needed.
Staying informed on developments and trends in the college admission field.
Maintaining and cultivating relationships with college admission officers, which includes hosting them during their visits to campus.
Visiting college campuses individually and on college-sponsored trips.

Master’s Degree preferred in education or school leadership;

Experience in Boarding Schools preferred;
