OVERVIEW: Admiral Farragut Academy seeks an engaging and energetic full-time Math teacher (Lower School), starting in January 2020.
This is an instructional position with responsibility for guiding and directing the learning experiences of students in a group or class within Admiral Farragut Academy, while modeling integrity, self-discipline, perseverance and wellness.
TYPICAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THIS POSITION:
Establishes and fosters a culture of learning and an environment of positive social interaction that actively engages students in learning and self-motivation.
Demonstrates a commitment to the success of students with diverse goals, backgrounds and learning styles.
Prepares material and plans a program for individualized and group instruction based on identified long-range goals and specific objectives, in accordance with both the scope and sequence of the curriculum as well as the students’ interests and needs.
Presents a clear description of the learning task and its content by presenting and discussing concepts, monitoring student understanding, and re-teaching when necessary.
Accurately assesses student learning through formative and summative assessment and effectively adapting instruction based on these assessments.
Prepares, administers and corrects student assignments/tests and assesses student progress through the interpretation of related data and the monitoring of classroom performance.
Maintains accurate, up-to-date records appropriate to a diagnostic/prescriptive approach, including but not limited to attendance, progress reports, grade records and book inventories.
Adapts methods to accommodate learner differences.
Applies knowledge of child psychology to include growth, development, interrelationships, etc.
Uses appropriate classroom management techniques.
Integrates technology into the curriculum.
Confers with the student, his/her parents, the Head of Upper/Lower School and/or supportive personnel regarding the student’s academic and social development.
Attends all regularly scheduled meetings.
Shares the responsibility regarding supervising students and maintaining appropriate student deportment outside of his/her classroom and willingly accepts supervisory assignment for the corporate good.
Accompanies (chaperones) off-campus trips/events.
Supports school extracurricular functions.
Uses out-of-class duty hours effectively for class preparation, helping students and participating in department/school activities.
Participates on school-based committees, special projects/initiatives, and collaborates with other faculty members and departments to achieve strategic initiatives.
Demonstrates a professional, cooperative and considerate attitude toward students, colleagues and staff.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred: Valid Florida teaching certificate for the level and subject area to be taught.
EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years elementary-school teaching experience preferred, including technology-enhanced instruction.
*An equivalent combination of knowledge and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of a Florida teaching certificate.
Ability to pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprint clearance
Ability to pass a drug screen

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work. Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category is rated Light Work when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
