Holland Hall seeks a passionate, committed educator who is energized by work with students to serve as a full-time Upper School Social Studies and English Teacher. This teaching position is responsible for three sections of 10th grade US History in addition to one year of senior English electives. The job will entail a total of 4 classes per semester with up to three classes to prepare. Average class size is fourteen students. US History classes focus on the broad narrative of America’s past as well as basic analytical skills necessary for success in the humanities curriculum. Teaching US History in collaboration with other faculty members is a requirement. Senior English electives focus on college level reading and writing skills and cover a wide variety of literary and writing genres. The classes in both of these departments typically take place around a Harkness table, with discourse as a key component of both classes. There is also the possibility of independent studies with students.
The candidate should have a history of evaluating student progress and offering individualized? help to meet student needs. We value experiential learning, and we foster an atmosphere where curriculum is developed and refined to reflect the contemporary world. The position also entails serving as an advisor to a small group of upper school students starting in the second year of service to the school. This role entails keeping track of each advisee’s progress through ongoing communication with teachers and families.
