The Lawrenceville School announces an opening for a Mathematics/Statistics teacher. We are seeking an enthusiastic, collegial individual who wants to work with other highly motivated faculty and students in a collaborative, diverse boarding school environment. Experience teaching upper-level Mathematics courses, including calculus, is a plus.
The Lawrenceville Mathematics Department encourages students to develop an appreciation for the inherent beauty and utility of mathematics, as well as facility with constructing and evaluating mathematical arguments, using mathematical models to describe real-world phenomena, and making decisions in the face of risk and uncertainty.
In addition to teaching four classes per term, faculty are also expected to participate in the School’s residential and athletic (or co-curricular) programs.
Teach four sections each trimester, with two or three preparations
Coach or assist with a sport or co-curricular activity in two seasons
Advise a group of six to eight students
Provide weekly supervision for boarding students; although typically not starting their first year, faculty are expected to spend eight years living in one of the residential houses at some point in their career.
Bachelor's degree in mathematics or related field; Master’s degree preferred
At least two years high school teaching experience
A passion for teaching mathematics and statistics
Ability to teach a range of courses, including Honors Statistics; the strongest candidates will be able to teach upper level mathematics and statistics courses, including Calculus and/or Calculus-based Statistics and beyond
Background in and commitment to planning and facilitating collaborative, student-centered learning experiences
Experience with effective use of technology in the learning process
