Overview of Position This position is for Fifth Grade Math & Science Maternity Substitute Teacher. The successful candidate will report to the Middle School Division Head. As a Fifth Grade Math & Science Maternity Substitute Teacher, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Teach and oversee the fifth grade math and science courses Collaborate with other fifth grade team members, as well as math, science, library, and technology departments Implement existing curriculum and develop new curriculum over time to ensure the quality of the overall program Attend and chaperone the fifth grade overnight field trip to the Marin Headlands 2 nights 3 days Attend community meeting and lead one main event for community meeting each year Provide individualized support to students during biweekly study hall periods Teach one elective each quarter Help lead service learning and buddy programs in conjunction with other fifth grade team members Write spring report cards for all of the 5th grade students
The Fifth Grade Math and Science Maternity Substitute teacher works very closely with the Fifth Grade Homeroom teachers to ensure adequate academic and social-emotional progress among all our fifth graders.
Qualifications The candidate must have the following: Experience teaching upper elementary and/or middle school students Experience with differentiated instruction and promotion of growth mindset Commitment to early adolescent education and social/emotional development Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom community that allows for a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected Commitment to equity and justice work, as well as anti-bias teaching and learning Commitment to working in teams Commitment to effectively communicating and partnering with current and prospective parents A passion for math and science pedagogy, especially engineering and hands-on projects
The ideal candidate would also have the following: Desire to connect with students through extracurricular activities such as coaching, clubs, cohort groups, tutoring, etc. Strong organizational and record keeping skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills Narrative report writing skills Sense of humor Flexibility
School-wide duties include: Participation in cross-grade committees and departments Ancillary duties, including staff meetings, attendance at school functions, recess duties, etc.
