Director of Early Childhood Social Work (LCSW-C) - (190001LL)
The University of Maryland School of Social Work is currently seeking a Director for Early Childhood. The primary purpose of the Director for Early Childhood is to create and implement a strategic plan that facilitates collaboration and coordination among existing early childhood education programs in the West Baltimore community of Upton/Druid Heights and neighborhood pre-kindergarten and kindergarten public school programs. The goal is to prepare low income children to enter kindergarten and to improve transitions from home or early learning to PK-12 education. The Director will create a local coalition to develop an early childhood system of care in which public and private providers offer a wide range of programs working toward the same goals with the same expectations. Evidence-based early childhood best practices should be developmentally appropriate, culturally and racially relevant, and trauma-informed. The Director will direct a team of school-based service providers and oversee the implementation of several community-based parent education curricula. This position will directly supervise a team of Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants (licensed social workers) and must be an approved supervisor with the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.

Work with early learning providers, public school leadership, and Promise Heights staff to create and convene an early childhood education network to ensure services are high quality and comprehensive for children from birth through Kindergarten.
Ensure local efforts are aligned with state and local standards and assessments, and lead to the development of an academic growth plan.
Work with the Director of Data Management & Program Evaluation to develop a framework to assess the strengths and areas of improvement of local programs. Compile statistical progress reports for funders.
Create and implement professional development opportunities for early childhood educators and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants (social workers). Integrate Promise Heights early childhood programs into a pipeline of integrated and connected programs (B'more for Healthy Babies, Family Check-Up, Parent University, Chicago Parenting Program, Families and Schools Together).
Manage Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants and their teams at each elementary school, which may include BSW staff and MSW interns. Provide supervision for advanced clinical licensure for Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants and BSW staff as required by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
Develop and implement new and innovative programs for parents to increase their knowledge on child development, brain development, and responsive parenting.
Work to increase the number of seats in high quality early learning programs while helping families access those seats. Conduct and/or refer young children to early screenings to identify needs and drive supports. Develop and implement Kindergarten readiness transition programs between child care providers and local schools. Share best practices with early childhood educators and Promise Heights staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Master's in Social Work.
Experience: Six (6) years in early childhood education and/or early childhood mental health services with at least two (2) years of experience of overall responsibility for program direction, coordination and implementation.
Supervisory: Two (2) years of direct supervision and management experience.
Preferred: LCSW-C in the state of Maryland and an approved supervisor by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
Other: No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Understanding of current research, trends, and highlights from the field related to early childhood education, social emotional learning. Self-starter, organized, and detailed-orientated. Excellent interpersonal, communications, public speaking, and presentation skills. Experienced problem-solver; strong conflict resolution ability. Ability to multi-task, meet strict deadlines, and work under time pressure.
Hiring Range for this position is low $80,000s to low $90,000s, Commensurate with education and experience.
