The City of Aurora is seeking highly motivated and talented individual for a career in the Recreation Division. The Recreation Superintendent of Sports manages all sports programs, leagues and rentals of sports fields. Responsible for all sports facilities owned and operated by the city including food concessions and as well as ensuring quality customer service.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Sports Superintendent is engaged through challenging assignments, opportunities to grow programs according to the needs and desires of the Citizens of Aurora and the ability to grow valuable, lasting relationships in a dynamic work environment.
Essential duties include:
Leads by example to ensure excellent customer service for visitors to city of Aurora sports facilities and program participants by establishing high customer service standards for staff and ensuring a high level of accountability to meet those expectations.
Promotes outreach to the community to gain insight into citizen expectations, needs and desires and challenges staff to develop plans to meet them.
Works closely with city officials and community leaders to promote our sports facilities for tournaments and special events. The Aurora Sports Park provides a $40 million dollars economic impact to the city of Aurora.
Is responsible to prepare the Sports Division budget and manage all revenue and
expenses closely to ensure a strong financial performance and meet budgeted projections.
Sets work priorities and oversees sports supervisors, program staff and concessions staff,setting policies and procedures that require staff to provide exceptional programs and excellent customer service.
Assess the condition and functionality of facilities and equipment. Make recommendations for capital expenditures to support programs or improve facilities.
Makes personnel decisions on selection, hiring, training, evaluating and developing
Manages all intergovernmental agreements related to the sports programs include facility use agreements.
Responsible to maintain positive working relationships with elected officials, city staff, school district staff, tournament directors, and independent youth sport organization leaders.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Associate's Degree in Recreation Administration, Sports Management or a related field.
Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
At least 5 years progressively responsible experience in Park and Recreation administration, Sports Management or a related field, 8 years or more experience (Preferred)
At least 2 years of supervisory and budget experience. Experience managing a nationally recognized sports complex, marketing and recruiting tournaments. 5 years or more experience (Preferred)
An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
Knowledge: Knowledge of sports programming and facility management. Knowledge of how to successfully supervise staff as well as manage a business with both revenue and expense expectations.
Abilities: The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, partners and citizens. The ability to respond to customer inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. The ability to motivate staff, create a positive work environment, and hold staff accountable for achieving measurable goals and developing their skills. Shifts for this position require the candidate to be available to work evenings, weekends, weekdays and holidays.
Skills: Strong organization, management, communication, interpersonal, planning, and budgeting skills are required.
Ability to obtain a Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record.
