About The Grammar School:
The Grammar School was founded in 1960 by a small group of families with the understanding that a child’s elementary school years provide the foundation for all future learning. It is the oldest of the independent elementary schools in southern Vermont, and has been a forerunner in programming in the arts, service learning, and nature based education. The school, which enrolls 100 children from preschool through 8th grade, attracts families from Vermont and New Hampshire. Incorporated as a non-profit educational institution since 1960, the Grammar School’s mission states:

The Grammar School seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and passionate educator to teach English and Humanities in our 6th-8th grades. The preferred candidate will have a depth of content knowledge required for a range of both learners and grade levels and be motivated to develop and teach cross-curricular units. A priority will be to integrate literature and language arts with history, social studies and specifically, current global issues related to and impacted by climate change.
8th grade homeroom teacher, overseeing and/or collaborating on all aspects of the 8th grade year: curriculum, secondary school applications, trips, special events, spring musical, and graduation.
Working collaboratively with the middle school team.
Developing and executing classroom lessons, assigning relevant coursework, creating and administering thoughtful assessments, evaluating student performance.
Working with a wide range of age appropriate literary texts.
Employing a variety of methodologies in facilitating student writing.
Communicating and meeting with parents.
Advising and mentoring 8th grade students.
Acting as the secondary school advisor: helping students prepare for SSAT testing, essay writing, and application completion.
Trip leader: organize and lead 8th grade trips – fall overnight, Boston overnight, Ecuador 10-day trip.
Physical Skills Development in conjunction with our sports program coordinator.
Participating in the daily life of the school and taking on additional extra-curricular responsibilities as determined by the HOS.
A degree in English
