Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is the 10th largest school system in the nation. Located in Northern Virginia, outside of Washington D.C., FCPS is searching for aspiring and experienced administrative leaders to join our school-based leadership teams to work with students, parents, school-based personnel, and central office professional staff.
The school system implements a principal-selection process that includes placing qualified candidates in a pool from which they may be selected for a specific school.
To be considered for the FCPS Principal Pool, applicants must apply between November 6, 2019 – February 11, 2020 and upload all required documents (resume and two essay responses). Principals direct and are accountable for the planning, assessment, instructional leadership, communication, community relations, and safety and administrative management required to manage the instructional and special programs, organization, and facilities of an assigned Fairfax County public school.
Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in administration and supervision preK-12 (a special education endorsement required for special education principal positions), plus seven years of progressively more responsible experience in teaching and administration or supervision, with a minimum of three years administrative experience. Can demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices, materials, and equipment used in modern public school education and an ability to apply them to the needs of the school; knowledge of current curriculum and instructional practices and trends; knowledge of public school organization and administration; ability to plan, organize, and coordinate comprehensive school instructional programs; ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of instructional and support personnel; ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, community, and the general public; and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
