Waldron Mercy Academy is a private Catholic co-educational school for boys and girls in pre-school thru eight grade. Founded in 1923 by the Sisters of Mercy, Waldron Mercy is located just outside Philadelphia in the Main Line suburb of Merion Station, Pennsylvania. Current enrollment is over 400 students. The Middle School has 200 students in grades 4 – 8 and a faculty of 15 plus special teachers and resource specialists.
Waldron Mercy seeks a qualified candidate for the position of 7th/8th Grade Religion Teacher to start as soon as possible. The candidate should appreciate the unique qualities that an adolescent learner brings to the classroom environment and who can nurture the development of each student.
The ideal candidate will:
Create a personal, engaging and welcoming learning environment
Cultivate a sense of community with respect, appreciation and mutual trust for each member
Demonstrate and design learning experiences
Implement varied and creative teaching methods to incorporate the effective use of technology
Implement an interdisciplinary approach to demonstrate how their faith/religion can be applied to and strengthen other subject areas
Directly infuse the Mercy charism and Critical Concerns throughout the curriculum
Tailor instruction to meet the needs of all learners
Foster a conversational environment in class by challenging and guiding students to become critical thinkers and co-creators of the 21st century.
With the Religious Director, coordinate weekly after school outreach opportunities at Mercy Neighborhood Ministries and plan a week of summer service for 8th graders.
Engage colleagues in collaborative planning and work enthusiastically as a valued team member
Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities and resource needs
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence
Teaching Certification preferred
Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study
Three years experience at an appropriate grade or age level preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, parents and colleagues
Demonstrated organizational skills
Ability to deal with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
