Comprehensive responsibility for all academic and non-academic programs involving students and faculty, including:
? Integrating the school’s mission and values into all activities of the middle school
? Functioning as the chief articulator of the middle school program, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other necessary information
? Providing an orderly, controlled environment in which learning can take place, a school climate that is supportive and reflects the school's values
? Being aware of the educational, physical, social, and psychological needs of the members of our school community and developing plans to those needs
? Assisting in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events
? Being a visible presence in all areas of the school; to work toward a resolution of all problems - both routine and unique - as they arise
? Keeping the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, and problems of the school and performing other duties as assigned by the head of school
Act as the academic leader of the middle school, responsible for its day-to-day operations, monitoring the academic and non- academic programs and student progress, and supervising Director of Outplacement.
Oversee the development and implementation of curriculum, including:
? Supervising the teaching process, reviewing and evaluating academic programs
? Leading the articulation of the school mission, school goals, department goals, course objectives, materials, methods, and means of assessment
? Overseeing the curriculum review process and making recommendations for correcting overlaps/gaps
? Assisting faculty in developing a uniform, detailed curriculum that includes appropriate assessment instruments to curriculum objectives
? Reviewing academic balance throughout; including level of homework and student projects and tests
? Overseeing standardized testing program ? Supervising athletics and other student enrichment activities outside of regular school hours
? Overseeing specific student activities such as electives, 8th grade musical, graduation, student council, yearbook, school newspaper
? Coordinating 6th and 7th grade overnight trips; and 5th grade full day trip
Supervise, support and evaluate middle school faculty, including:
? Providing and recommending professional development workshops and school observations
? Networking with curriculum directors at other schools- making sure the school is on the cutting edge and is knowledgeable of state mandates
? Establishing and maintaining curriculum resource room for staff
? Creating orientation for new teachers and in-service training for all teachers
? Conducting evaluation of classroom teachers
? Conducting regular meetings with faculty about routine school matters and to stimulate an exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern
? Making recommendations to the Head of School regarding hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty Provide academic guidance for students, including:
? Maintaining complete academic records on all middle school students
? Overseeing the grading and reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement
? Preparing a master school class schedule and assigning teachers and students to classes and other programs
? Assisting in admission process for testing, interviewing, and evaluating of applicants
Oversee health and welfare of middle school students while creating an environment in which learning can take place and a school climate that is supportive and reflects our school values. Oversee student behavior and classroom discipline, including:
? Managing student supervision issues, overseeing resolution of student conflicts, enforcing school behavioral expectations, maintaining disciplinary records, and overseeing correspondence to staff and parents
? Overseeing student attendance records
? Counseling students, when necessary, working closely with the middle school counselor
? Keeping the Head of School fully informed on student issues and all other relevant matters pertaining to school life
? Scheduling special parent programs on relevant topics when necessary
? Communicating as needed with parents regarding student behavior and wellbeing
? Coordinating new student orientation and serving on middle school admissions committee
? Overseeing advisory program
? Developing and implementing a health program
