The Upper School English teacher will be responsible for fostering a dynamic and creative learning environment that engages students in the classical and British literature curriculum and concepts through student-centered, differentiated learning. This individual will successfully utilize a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Preparing engaging, age appropriate lessons that reflect extensive knowledge of the curriculum and student development and abilities.
Integrating meaningful and effective technology in the classroom.
Participating in the continuing development of an inquiry-based English curriculum that prepares students to be critical, independent thinkers.
Serving as an advisor to a group of upper school students.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborator, innovator, and facilitator as well as possess the following qualifications:
Master’s degree in English, English education, or literature
Three-five years of teaching experience in an independent school with a proven track record of instruction in student-centered learning and other innovative educational practices
Extensive knowledge of classical and British literature and pedagogy
Knowledge of and experience with project-based learning
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective, professional relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians
Strong classroom management
