Berkeley Preparatory School is seeking to fill a position teaching Spanish in the Upper Division World Language Department for the 2020-2021 school year.
Strong candidates will:
Have comfort with student-centered, high-leverage communicative methods of teaching.
Be able to leverage said methods to create engaging, age-appropriate, and balanced lessons with roughly one third oral production, one third written production, and one-third interpretive skill development over the course of a week.
Have a functional knowledge of, or be willing to learn about, the three modes our assessments are built around: the interpersonal mode, the presentational mode, and the interpretive mode.
Be comfortable using can dos/ learning targets to structure individual lessons and units.
Be prepared to deliver lessons with 90% target language use, per ACTFL recommendations.
Work with a dedicated team to implement an established, textbook-independent curriculum and manage proper pacing.
Have superior communication skills and communicate tactfully, politely, sincerely, and effectively with all school constituents. This includes regular student progress updates.
Have a growth mindset and be receptive to peer and chair feedback and/or coaching, regardless of level of experience.
Have superior classroom management skills and view student engagement as the key to strong classroom management.
Candidates must show a strong willingness to receive feedback regularly, grow professionally, significantly contribute to the life of the school, and will be eager to work in a culturally and ethnically diverse environment.
Compensation and Benefits:
The appointment is a full-time position with full benefits. The compensation package will be very competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, degree attainment and the national independent school and college markets.
