Major and Planned Gifts Officer
Overview: This position will be responsible for planning and executing The Elisabeth Morrow School’s (EMS) Major and Planned Giving program for leadership and major gift donors. This person will work strategically with the Senior Director of Institutional Advancement to develop a plan for all leadership and major gift donors to EMS.
Reports to: Senior Director of Institutional Advancement
Develop and implement a sophisticated major and planned giving program based on industry best practices, with an emphasis on high ROI fundraising activities.
Identify, research, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned giving prospects.
Support the creation of major gift and planned giving annual goals and metrics alongside the Senior Director of Institutional Advancement.
Manage a portfolio of 120-140 major gift ($25,000+) prospects.
130 major gift visits a year to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects
Convert prospects into donors
Manage a portfolio of 20-40 planned giving prospects.
15-20 planned giving visits a year
Build a base of leadership corporate and foundation partners.
Create and manage customized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for each prospect in their portfolio.
Work with the Head of School, Senior Director of Institutional Advancement, and Volunteers to develop prospect strategies and coordinate their participation as needed.
Work closely with the Director of Annual Giving to effectively move Annual Fund donors through to the major gifts pipeline and coordinate comprehensive campaign solicitation strategies.
Participate in campaign prospect visits, as appropriate.
Participate in fundraising and cultivation events, and follow-up with major gift prospects.
Provide planned giving educational opportunities to planned giving prospects and staff.
Track all activities including meeting briefs in Raiser’s Edge and work with Development and Stewardship Manager to pull appropriate reports as needed.
Prioritize and commit to participation in internal Development staff meetings including:
Prepare agenda and check in points for weekly 1-1 meetings with Senior Director of Institutional Advancement.
Attend and report at regular Advancement office prospect strategy meetings.
Attend and report at regular Advancement office staff meetings.
Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Institutional Advancement.
5-7 years of major gift or planned gift experience, preferably in an independent school environment.
Ability to match the needs and interests of school leadership with major gift donors in order to align the philanthropic needs of each party.
Experience working with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
Demonstrated frontline fundraising experience and strong interpersonal skills.
Success in developing and qualifying prospects, cultivating relationships, and closing solicitations.
Willingness to travel, including some nights and weekends for prospect visits.
Salary commensurate with experience.
