Templeton Academy Nashville is seeking a dynamic, full-time high school Science teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.
Templeton Academy has a very unique high school curriculum. Students take two 2-hour courses every 10-week term, followed by a study hall and community time at the end of the day. As a result, full-time teachers are responsible for two class preps each term, for four terms in a year. Teachers get at least an hour daily planning plus lunch, but otherwise are expected to be interacting and connecting with the Templeton community if not actively teaching.
We are a microschool with three character values: kindness, curiosity, and growth mindset. We look for these in our teachers as well as our students. We require weekly lesson plans primarily based on experiential learning, weekly observations, and weekly coaching sessions. We are an urban experiential school, and teachers are required to plan one off-campus trip a week, incorporate project-based learning with a culminating 20 hour project weighted the same as exams, and participate in weekly PD. Coaching and support is available for developing curriculum, classroom management, and teaching skills.
This particular Science staff member should be comfortable teaching Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Science. Applicants who can teach Computer Science will be given priority.
Successful applicants will demonstrate previous high-quality teaching experience, a willingness to be coached, emotional equanimity, and a desire to innovate in the classroom. Applicants can send their resume to Kalee.Barbis@templetonacademy.org.
Preference given to advanced degrees
Additional Salary Information: average of 43,000
