Assistant Teachers in Spanish are predominantly involved in supporting students through small group or 1:1 instruction. In doing so, they provide additional support to help students access the target language and also differentiate instruction based on the level of Spanish language development of students. On occasion, they also have the opportunity to lead full-group lessons as well.
In addition to the intensive and hands-on teaching experience, Assistant Teachers also receive ongoing professional development. These opportunities are geared toward strengthening foundational teaching practices as well as supporting individuals in their pursuit of future career opportunities.
We believe this role is best suited for individuals who are in the early stages of their careers as educators. The Lower School has approximately 15 Assistant Teachers across various grades and special areas, all of whom are included our Assistant Teacher Program. This program focuses on providing formal and informal guidance and mentorship including professional development opportunities. Assistant Teachers may remain at Riverdale a maximum of three years.
