Lakeside School’s Summer School Programs is currently recruiting for a Makerspace teacher for the Investigative Learning Camp, an academic summer camp designed for students entering grades 5-8. The Investigative Learning Camp (ILC) offers students the opportunity to take classes covering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) -based topics and to engage in fun afternoon activities. All classes and activities encourage creative play and hands-on learning. The position will be part time. The Makerspace activity runs July 6 – July 31. In this activity, students use design thinking to complete engineering projects (i.e. building a bridge, designing a dream bedroom, making name tags using a laser cutter, etc.). This activity meets 1:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. There will be a mandatory orientation meeting on Thursday, July 2.

Develop a makerspace curriculum that encourages problem solving, collaboration, and critical thinking skills
Order and organize supplies necessary for all makerspace projects
Plan daily lessons that teach design thinking and encourage hands-on learning
Supervise and instruct all campers during the activity period
Supervise the assigned counselor, who serves as a classroom teaching assistant
Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related field; master’s degree preferred
Experience teaching, tutoring, or coaching middle-school or high-school age students
Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks
Excellent communication and human relation skills
Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks. Candidate actively works to create an inclusive classroom environment
Strong organizational skills

Sense of humor and enthusiasm
Compensation and Benefits The stipend for this position is $2,000. Lunch is included.
