Lecturer Pool - Journalism - School of Journalism
The School of Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified part-time or full-time temporary instructors to teach Summer Sessions and academic-year courses.
These are not tenure-track positionsselected candidates will hold the title of Lecturer. We are also seeking applicants for Teacher Special Programs (TSP), should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed.
If you viewed an announcement about a lecturer or TSP need for a specific course, this is the place to apply. This is our generic lecturer / TSP pool recruitment, which we draw from for all new Lecturer / TSP hires for the 2019-20 academic year. For Lecturers, in addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties will include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining a course website.
Lecturer in Summer Sessions appointments will be made for the six-week term from beginning July 8, 2019 through August 15, 2019.

The number of available academic-year positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the School. Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.
Review for fall semester 2019 teaching needs will begin in April 2019. Review for spring semester 2020 teaching needs will begin August 2019. Applications will continue to be accepted and reviewed through March 30, 2020. If you wish to remain in the pool after March 30, 2020, you will need to reapply.
In 2019/2020, the School anticipates hiring needs including, but not limited to:
Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have either a Bachelor's or equivalent international degree at the time of application. Preferred Qualifications: Ten years of professional journalistic experience. Prior experience teaching undergraduates, or similar experience, for summer sessions, and prior experience teaching graduate students, or similar experience, for classes in fall 2019 and spring 2020. In addition, a demonstrated record of professional achievement
Salary and Benefits: The salary for this position is commensurate with teaching and professional experience.
