Charlotte Latin School seeks a highly experienced Choral Music educator as the Upper School Choral Music Director for the 2020-21 school year. The Upper School Director prepares and directs the Upper School Concert Choir and potential music electives, such as AP Music Theory, and Music Theory I. This faculty member will serve as an Upper School student advisor and potential club advisor. The Upper School Director team-teaches with the Middle School Choral Music Director to ensure a seamless vocal curriculum in Grades 5-12 and will also collaborate with the Upper School Theater Director, serving as Music Director of the Upper School Musical. The Upper School Director will have the option to teach private lessons on campus.
The successful candidate will have a wide range of experience in classical and contemporary choral literature, musical theater programming, and vocal pedagogy.
A bachelor’s degree in music with a concentration in Choral Music is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
Experience teaching in an independent K-12 school preferred, preferably at the upper grades level.
Minimum of three years teaching choral music in a school setting is required
Exhibit a love of working with children in this age group
Strong interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong desire to participate in the whole life of the school
Ability to work independently and within a team
The ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and serve as a collaborative team player
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
