Poly Prep seeks applicants for the openings of ElementaryAssociate Teacher. This list is meant to highlight the important responsibilities inherent in teaching at Poly Prep Lower School. It does not, however, represent 100% of what teachers do on a day-to-day basis. Other tasks arise and teachers are expected to fulfill all duties to the highest standards of competence, skill, and efficiency. Ideal candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in education.
Work closely with head teacher to teach core subjects related to the age/grade assigned
Help assess student progress and maintain records; assist in the writing of reports; attend parent/teacher conferences - lead some conferences as experience and need dictate - to be determined in conjunction with head teacher and Director of the Associates Program
Participate in weekly grade-level planning meetings
With head teacher, update curriculum outlines to reflect changes
Accompany students to special subject classes as needed
Attend Student Support Group meetings
After consulting with head teacher, communicate additionally with families about student performance when needed
Administer ERB’s or other standardized tests as determined by the administration and teaching team
Participate in all class field trips
Be able to lift forty pounds, assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children
With head teacher, write monthly newsletter
Fulfill student supervisory duties: Early Bird, lunch, recess, rest time, and dismissal
Attend faculty meetings
Attend faculty professional development days:
Week prior to Labor Day (New faculty only: one to two days the week prior)
Day after Columbus Day
Day after President’s Day
Friday before Memorial Day
Week after last day of school
Attend Associate Teacher training sessions and meetings
Participate in Admissions events - “Interview Saturdays” (late fall/winter)
Attend/support special events:
Back to School Night (September)
Pumpkin Patch (late September/Early October; a weekend day)
Open School Night (late May/early June)
Commencement (early June)
Participate on one committee
Ideal candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in education.
