St. Mark’s School of Texas is seeking a creative and energetic Spanish teacher to begin in the 2020-2021 school year. Strong candidates will possess native or near-native proficiency in Spanish. As this is a Master Teaching Chair position, the ideal candidate will truly be an expert teacher of the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures at a variety of levels. He or she should also be skilled in the integration of technology as a tool to advance student learning. The successful applicant will be willing to work as part of a team of Spanish teachers who implement the School’s rigorous Spanish curriculum, which spans grades one through twelve. Likewise, he or she will demonstrate a commitment to character and leadership education for all boys, giving equal priority to their character and intellectual development.
Teaching four or five sections of Spanish, which may include courses at both the upper and middle school levels, as well as honors and/or AP courses
Serving as an Advisor to a small group of boys
Performing duties related to the position of Master Teacher, which may include mentoring younger teachers
Contributing to the broader community by participating in the wilderness program, club program, or athletic program, depending on experience
Participating in the character and leadership education program
Experience / Qualifications & Skills
A master’s degree in Spanish is preferred, but candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and experienced native speakers with degrees in other fields will also be considered.
Ten or more years of teaching; independent school experience is a plus, as is experience teaching at both the upper and middle school levels
Knowledge of varied teaching strategies to differentiate learning
Fluency with a variety of technology tools to advance learning
A passion for the subject matter and for working with young people and colleagues
