Pinewood Preparatory School (Summerville, SC) seeks a new High School History and Related Arts Teacher starting in August 2020.
The High School History and Related Arts Teacher will teach high school courses including CP, Honors, and AP US History, CP Economics, CP Government, and AP Government. The candidate for this position will be expected to design and maintain a classroom environment favorable to students’ academic and personal growth and to establish effective rapport with students while maintaining proper classroom management. The teacher is responsible for instructing students about local, state, national, and global history, economics, and government. Additionally, the teacher is responsible for instructing students about important dates, events and people that have shaped our modern world. The teacher will be expected to discuss a critical analysis of historical events and figures, provide context for modern times, and stay abreast of current events.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Teach high school history and related arts courses including CP, Honors, and AP US History, CP Economics, CP Government, and AP Government.
Incorporate various instructional and assessment techniques.
Provide help after school to students as needed.
Diversify curriculum and differentiate instructional strategies for various academic levels.
Create a classroom environment that actively engages students and is developmentally appropriate for the age, maturity, and interests of the students.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior per school guidelines.
Serve as a homeroom advisor within the school’s advisement program.
Serve as advisor and chaperone for Pinewood’s Model United Nations Team.
Coordinate for the Model UN Team to participate in at least one major competition (typically Georgia Southern University’s Model UN Competition).
Perform other related duties as directed by the Head of School, Head of High School, and the Head of the History and Related Arts Department.
Core Qualifications and Credentials:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in High School History Education, or a closely-related field.
Experience teaching in an independent school environment would be helpful.
