Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Sunnyvale School District provides students with enriched standards-based curriculum delivered through quality instruction at each of our 10 schools. Our district is comprised of a comprehensive preschool program, eight elementary schools serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade, and two middle schools serving students in sixth through eighth grade.
Our transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade students reflect the widespread diversity of our region; 35% qualify for free or reduced-fee lunches due to low or very low-income levels, and about 32% are English Learners.
The Sunnyvale School District team includes 943 highly qualified educators, administrators and support staff whose primary goal is to enable the approximately 6,600 students enrolled in our schools to achieve academic success. Our mission is to provide every student with a strong foundation of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional skills to prepare them for success in a diverse, challenging, and changing world.
We operate according to a strategic mission that focuses first and foremost on student learning. We also adhere to strong financial planning and management practices to ensure that, regardless of fluctuating economic circumstances, each school in the district is equipped with all it needs to prepare every student with the tools, skills, and knowledge required for future success.
The time-tested and research-supported Seven Correlates of Effective Schools shape our instructional environment and practices, and each year we work with the Board of Education to develop time-bound Leadership Goals designed to help us deepen our effectiveness in every area of our operations. We also partner closely with our community, including nonprofit organizations, universities, and businesses, to leverage resources and enrich students’ learning opportunities. Our neighbors are highly supportive, approving bond measures to support school improvements, volunteering in the classroom, partnering with us for service delivery, and awarding grant money to help us in our work. This collaborative commitment to our students has been a strong contributor to our success here in the Sunnyvale School District.

As California’s Premier Executive Search and Leadership Development Firm, Leadership Associates has assisted school boards in their selection of superintendents in more than 500 California school districts and organizations since 1996.
The educational agencies we have served range from school districts of all sizes to statewide educational and non-profit organizations. Boards of Education select our firm primarily because of our track record of success, our experience & skill, our network, and our integrity. Because we work for the Board, the search process is also an opportunity for the Board to solidify their own teamwork and set the direction for the future of their district. The process we use, therefore, produces consistently positive outcomes for the Board, staff and community.
In addition to Executive Search Services, Leadership Associates provides Executive Leadership Development Services, which includes professional superintendent support and advisement, quarterly facilitated regional group sessions, access to professional resources, supplemental services, and an annual two-day summer institute with a focus on research and best practices.
