Job Title: Upper School Science Teacher
Division: Upper School
Reports to: Head of Upper School and Chair of the Science Department
Job Description: King seeks a dynamic, full-time Upper School Science Teacher, with the capacity to cultivate an engineering program. This teacher will assume duties and responsibilities, consistent with expectations for all Upper School teachers, which complement the primary teaching load of four sections and one activity.
Primary responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to:
Teach a four-course load comprised of engineering and physics classes that may include advanced level courses.
Enthusiastically represent the field of engineering as a whole and support all forms of activity, including science fairs, that engage students with the engineering design process.
Collegially collaborate with teachers and other staff to facilitate the development of the engineering mindset and corresponding skills.
Collaborate with the Director of Teaching and Learning when appropriate to ensure students are being fully supported and challenged.
Participate in all required meetings.
Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress as necessary.
Skills and Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree(s) in Engineering or Physics, with particularly strong competency in engineering. Graduate degrees a plus, but not required.
At least three years of high school teaching experience, preferably with advanced-level courses.
Strong skills and passion for teaching engineering and science with student-centered best practices for a range of learners; and a deep commitment to project-based, research-oriented learning.
Facility with a wide range of tools and technology including, but not limited to:
Computer programming (in languages such as Java, C++, Python, etc.)
Computer hardware and microcontrollers (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Arduino, etc.)
Possess a sound understanding of the intellectual and social-emotional developmental stages of adolescents from the ages of 14-18.
Ability and capacity to nurture student discovery and skill development.
The candidate should be organized and able to manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including: Google Classroom, Gmail.
Must have a demonstrated alignment with King’s Mission, Virtues, and Diversity Policy.
