Responsibilities for a Middle School French teacher include, but are not limited to:
Teach sixth, seventh, and eighth grade French
Teach one or two electives
Serve as an Advisor to 10-12 students
Serve as a productive member of the Middle School Modern Languages Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, including Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and supporting the work of the department.
Attend and actively engage in grade-level team meetings to discuss student support and other grade-level priorities
Explore and implement innovative use of technology in language education
Embrace a collaborative middle school culture to support new curricular and social-emotional initiatives
A willingness to assist and contribute broadly to Hawken’s curricular or co-curricular programs, in the life of the School, and other duties as assigned by the Division Director or Head of School.
Bachelor’s Degree in French, Education, or a related field is required, and one to three years of experience.
Fluency in French, knowledge of French history and culture, and a general love of language.
Relevant travel experience and knowledge of independent schools are preferable.
Joyful enthusiasm, flexibility, good humor, and a team spirit are necessary for working within a dynamic department serving middle school learners individually and in groups
Familiarity with diverse ways of engaging students over a range of learning styles enhanced by a desire to try new approaches
A continuous commitment to improve one’s growth, particularly with technology as applied to best practices in education
Deep understanding of the developmental needs of Middle School students
Passion for working with adolescents
Highly developed collaborative and communication skills with colleagues and parents
