Benchmark School, founded in 1970, is an independent coeducational day school serving 180 bright children in grades 1 through 8 who have been identified as having dyslexia, ADHD, auditory processing or language-based learning differences.
Benchmark School is seeking applicants for a full-time middle school language arts teacher with an ability to work with a co-teacher using various co-teaching models of instruction to best meet the needs of students, and with a larger team, including a supervisor, psychologist, and student mentors. The successful candidate will provide research-based instruction in all aspects of literacy and content for a language arts class and a content area (social studies or science) class.
The school seeks a teacher with an ability to provide explicit instruction within the context of a project- or inquiry-based instructional framework and who will demonstrate an openness to learn and grow professionally. The successful candidate will be a clear communicator with colleagues and parents and a role model for middle school students.
All middle school teachers are mentors to a small group of middle school students and participate in occasional evening and weekend activities.
A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree is preferred. At least two years of teaching experience at the middle level is preferred.
