We are currently seeking applicants for our Occupations Teacher (Maker Space Guide) position in our middle school program. Along with the humanities curriculum and interdisciplinary studies in math, science, language, and social studies, our middle school students identify real-world interests and entrepreneurial activities that they pursue under the umbrella of occupations and micro-economy, exercising planning and implementation of short and long-term projects over the school year.
The Occupations (maker space) program connects students with activities that are life skills and tie into the curriculum in ways that emulate life outside of the school. Through the Occupation’s curriculum students engage in each activity with the hope of gaining more in-depth and applied experience with materials that strengthen ability, self-worth, and interdependence with the community. Interests are identified and relationships cultivated that enhance the student connection between the classroom and the world. Activities include managing money, cooking, woodworking, jewelry making, and sustainable gardening.
The Occupations Teacher (Maker Space Guide) is responsible for providing, mentoring, guidance, and assessment of middle school students applying a Montessori approach and for the ongoing development and oversight of the occupations program maintaining an emphasis on hands-on, real-world learning.
Applicants should have a never-ending passion for personal learning, with an exceptional level of positive regard for adolescents and respect for their work. The school is committed to a high level of cross-disciplinary integration, and teachers will work closely with each other, meeting regularly to create a dynamic team approach. In addition, we are looking for teachers who have a diverse background and who are ready to travel and to lead extra-curricular activities aligned with their personal interests. Science and math background preferred.
