Both Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report have named The Preuss School one of the best high schools in San Diego and the state of California. It is also recognized as one of the ten best charter schools in the country. Located directly on the UC San Diego campus in La Jolla, the school was founded in 1999 as a result of a commitment by the university to address the educational needs of low-income, first generation students in San Diego. This commitment includes providing a rigorous, college preparatory education for 850 students from grades six through twelve, making The Preuss School one of the nation's most transformative charter schools.
Under general direction, is responsible for the administration and coordination of a charter middle and high school, grades 6 to 12. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Principal is the School's Instructional Leader of a team of highly dedicated faculty and support staff that strive to provide the best educational experience for Preuss scholars. As the Instructional Leader at the School, the Principal spearheads the development of the school's curriculum and culture, sets goals and ensures scholars meet the stated learning outcomes. The Principal plans and directs the school's educational program including supervising and evaluating instructional and support staff, implements the school budget, and actively participates in planning and policy discussions on behalf of the School. The goal of this work is to create and maintain a respectful, responsible school environment that is welcoming to the community and supportive of student effort and achievement. The Principal's leadership will result in an instructional program and school environment that prepares every scholar for the successful matriculation into a four year college or university.
This is a 100% contract appointment for two (2) years. This may be extended or converted to Career status based on the needs of the department.

Excellent management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others. Demonstrated success at managing financial resources in alignment with strategic goals, with the ability to provide multifaceted management.
Proven skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution. Demonstrated ability to work professionally with faculty, staff and students of a major public research university.
Proven skills in organization and administration to effectively manage multiple important priorities. Ability to manage in a fast pace environment. Ability to be flexible at continuous changing situations needing intimidate attention while maintaining a calm and positive demeanor.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence / persuade all levels of staff. A true belief that all scholars are capable of outstanding outcomes. Demonstrated commitment and ability to communicate effectively and gain the trust of parents and scholars from historically disadvantaged economic backgrounds and from a variety of cultures and ethnicities.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude towards the work and ability to remain flexible and be an innovative team builder.
