Town School for Boys seeks a full-time Lower School Social Emotional Learning Teacher for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year.
Duties and Responsibilities of the job include:
Implementing classroom lessons based on the social and emotional learning scope and sequence for Kindergarten through Grade 4; topics include friendship, navigating social challenges, wellness, conflict resolution, emotional fluency and communication skills, amongst others.
Partnering with classroom teachers to integrate social emotional learning curricula within ongoing classroom curricula.
Leading friendship/social skills groups/discussion groups
Collaborating and consulting with the division heads, school counselor, teachers, other school personnel
Communicating with and providing resources/education/training for parents (coffees, special sessions, etc.)
Supporting students in classroom and play settings within the school environment, with an emphasis on “in-the-moment” coaching during recesses
Providing classroom observations with written feedback for teachers, administration, and parents
Engaging in a variety school activities in order to maintain a visible presence throughout the building and develop strong relationships with others
Desired Qualifications and Skills include:
Five years’ experience working in an elementary school setting, with a focus on social emotional learning
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment
Extensive knowledge of current social and emotional learning research and strategies
Specialized training in areas in support of social emotional growth such as conflict resolution, mindfulness, stress management, etc.
Experience teaching in diverse learning communities
Ability to think ahead and plan for effective one-on-one or small group support
Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple priorities
Commitment to the school’s mission, values, and vision
Technical/computer skills as required for job performance
