Position Classification: Full-time, 10 month, Faculty, salaried-exempt position
Hours: 7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., with additional hours as needed to fulfill teaching responsibilities

Position Summary: St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks a homeroom teacher for 2nd grade. The Lower School is a busy and purposeful place. We seek applicants who will provide inspiration and joy to our boys and contribute to the dynamic and energetic ethos within our school community. The ideal candidate will have proven success teaching and developing meaningful learning experiences for boys. The 2nd grade homeroom teacher will work closely and collaboratively with other members of the 2nd grade team, the Head of Lower School, and other resource and support faculty and staff.
Teach homeroom with 16-18 2nd grade boys in language arts/reading, math, and social studies
Foster communication and a respectful partnership with parents/guardians in conferences and through written reports
Work with colleagues to design meaningful learning experiences for boys
Support integration across curriculum areas and collaboration between teachers
Collaborate with teaching team as well as plan independently to deliver individual, whole-group, and small-group instruction
Plan and prepare lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
Assess student progress using a variety of formal and informal data collection tools and methods
Manage student behavior in accordance with best practices
Create a positive classroom environment in which all boys feel known and valued
Communicate necessary information regularly to students and parents regarding student progress and student needs
Engage in ongoing professional growth and development
Supervise students on the playground, in the hallway, dining hall, in the classroom, etc
Attend team and faculty meetings
Attend Lower School chapel several times a week
Qualifications & Key Skills:
Bachelor’s degree with strong academic record required; a masters degree and teaching certification preferred
Extensive experience working with lower elementary grade children; a minimum of three years of recent teaching experience at or near grade level
Experience integrating technology into the curriculum
A willingness to accept positive feedback, a professional demeanor, and integrity
Personal traits for nurturing the growth of boys and working cooperatively with adults; a passion and joy for working with young people, and an enthusiasm for learning
Ability to work with boys and parents in a warm, confident, empathetic manner
Commitment to St. Christopher’s mission, policies, and initiatives
A flexible, positive, can-do attitude and a sense of humor
