The Potomac School World Language Department is seeking a dynamic and talented substitute Chinese teacher beginning in April 2020 and continuing through June 2020. The Intermediate and Upper School Chinese Substitute Teacher vacancy is a full time position reporting to the Heads of Intermediate and Upper Schools. This position is responsible for teaching Chinese in grades 7-12.
Manage a full-time course load.
Prepare lesson plans following curriculum guidelines and requirements.
Teach the assigned curriculum using different instructional methods.
Conduct classes almost exclusively in the target language.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities by integrating competencies and goals into the lesson plans.
Manages routines and procedures to ensure a positive educational environment.
Correct assignments, administer tests, observe and evaluate students’ progress.
Meet with the parents to discuss student progress and problems.
Participate in faculty and professional meetings.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably with teaching experience in the target language, grades 7-12.
Skilled in writing and preparing lesson plans.
Fluent in English with the ability to write student reports.
Ability to communicate, motivate and understand students’ educational and emotional needs.
Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, support staff, parents and members of the community.
Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and utilize different teaching methods that will result in higher student achievement.
