The Stone Independent School seeks a full-time Mathematics Teacher for the 2020-21 school year. We are a problem-based, interdisciplinary day school looking for candidates interested in shaping an evolving and unique mathematics curriculum for our 9th - 12th grade students. The Stone Independent School seeks employees who want to contribute as part of a community of learners, educators, and professionals who act with empathy, ethicality, and gratitude, striving to make the world a measurably better place. All employees are expected to be full members of the school community, engaging in student life, academic purpose, and the school’s mission.
The ideal candidate for this position is able to integrate concepts from across the spectrum of topics and skills included in a traditional high school curriculum in each course. We want students exposed to the widest possible picture of mathematics available at each step in their mathematics journey, including an emphasis on data science and foundational philosophical basis for the discipline. Extensive experience with and working fluency in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, data analysis, and multi-dimensional calculus is required.
Full-time faculty members teach a full academic load including multiple core classes and electives, teach at least one five-day “intensive” course, help lead morning community time, serve as club and House leaders, mentors, advisors, and -- eventually -- coaches. Our teachers are engaged in the work of designing curriculum and creating a school culture alongside our students. The right candidate will be inquisitive, interested in educational design, engaged by Stone’s mission and creative ethos, highly energetic, and committed to working with adolescents.
The faculty at Stone is comprised of innovative educators who like to ask "why"-- about pedagogy, about school culture, about education. If you are interested in discussing a career at Stone, send a letter of interest, a short essay explaining your philosophy of education, a resumé, and a list of 3 references to Abby Kirchner (email@example.com) and AJ Lee (firstname.lastname@example.org).
