Indian Creek School is an independent coeducational day school offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts. Founded in 1973, Indian Creek School enrolls approximately 550 students in grades Pre-K through twelve from diverse ethnic, racial, religious, and economic backgrounds. This position is a full-time, 10-month, faculty position, reporting to the Head of the Lower School.

Create a positive and safe classroom culture and community
Deliver the first grade curriculum through classroom teaching
Work with the Head of the Lower School to ensure high quality education and the most engaging experience for students
Collaborate with the Lower School Team
Plan and implement standards-aligned units in language arts, math, science, and social studies
Use a variety of assessments, including student portfolios to measure student learning and drive instruction
Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
Maintain confidentiality with student information and records
Report progress to families through reports
Actively participate in a professional learning community, including reading and being familiar with relevant professional literature and research, participating in peer coaching, reflection meetings, planning meetings, data meetings, and staff meetings
Supervise students during lunch and recess
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (Master’s preferred)
Demonstrated experience/expertise in elementary education
Demonstrated experience and expertise in teaching the reading and writing workshop model for language arts
Demonstrated experience and expertise in classroom management
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other faculty members
Proficiency in integrating educational technology into instruction
Proficiency in using technology including Microsoft products for basic tasks
Educational philosophy which aligns with the mission and vision of Indian Creek School
Preferred: Degree focusing in Elementary Education
Preferred: Three or more years of experience as a lead teacher with elementary students
Preferred: Understanding of computational thinking, engineering design, and project based-learning approaches for young learners
Federal and State Background Check clearance
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to collaborate and maintain a positive relationship with others
Reflective practitioner in a state of constant professional growth and a willingness to share their craft with others
School environment including indoor and outdoor activities
Read handwritten documents and other records or reports
Exchange information in person, by computer, or on the telephone
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
Some light lifting, carrying, bending
Mobility to ensure supervision of students both in and outside of the building, including on playground equipment and on field trips
