A part-time (.8) position for the 2020-21 school year
Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive French teacher to join our Lower School faculty in the World Language department, teaching introductory French in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. Our Lower School World language teachers are charged with delivering an engaging curriculum, offer varied activities, including local field trips, and understand the developmental needs of an appropriate learning environment of students in Kindergarten through 5th grades. The School seeks applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in multicultural education, an understanding and appreciation of elementary school children and a demonstrated genuine fondness for working with students. Beyond the classroom, teachers are expected to take on duties that include recess and before school supervision and participate in the life of the community.
Demonstrates knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning
Demonstrates understanding of curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches, and developmental appropriateness of instruction, as well as different styles and types of assessment, including solving real-world problems and or performances.
Strong collaboration, to partner with colleagues to design curriculum, projects, activities, and experiences
Use of technology, when appropriate, to enhance students’ learning experience
Possesses a growth mindset, a love of learning, and patience
Bachelor’s Degree in French Language and/or Literature or equivalent area of study
Fluent or Native French speaker
Familiarity with 21st-century teaching principles
Minimum 3-5 years of teaching experience at the Elementary School level
Additional Qualifications we hope to find, but not required:
Credential or MA preferred, in French Language, Literature, or in Education
