The Stone Independent School seeks a full-time Middle School (grades 7-8) Mathematics Teacher for the 2020-21 school year. The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching all levels of secondary mathematics and demonstrate strong interest in problem-based learning, learner-centered pedagogy, and alternative assessments. A passion for working with middle school students is a must. Candidates who can teach advanced mathematics to talented middle school students are particularly suitable, as are those with experience in computer science. Position Summary: Our program emphasizes the development of skills and the opportunity for students to cultivate their curiosity through a wide range of choices. The essential duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Teach 7th - 8th grade mathematics;
Teach and design interdisciplinary courses with the Middle School Team;
Design and develop a skills-based curriculum with a team of mathematics teachers;
Teach multi-grade level electives to Upper School students, the design and scope of which are informed by teacher and student interests;
Teach one five-day “Intensive” course;
Advise a group of 8-10 students, overseeing their academic and social growth;
Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Senior Administrative Team;
Help lead morning community time, serve as club and House leaders, mentors, and advisors
