Position Available: Blair seeks a Head Ski Coach for the 2020-2021 school year; the ideal candidate will have experience racing at the collegiate level and coaching a team. Candidates must enjoy working with adolescents and possess an exceptional work ethic, technical expertise in skiing technique, strong communication skills, a commitment to productive collaboration with colleagues and a sense of humor. The position includes teaching in an academic department (i.e., math, history or English) as well as residential life and dormitory duties; as such, the strongest candidates will have a B.A. or B.S. in an academic discipline that we teach at Blair.
In particular, the person in this role will oversee all aspects of the ski program at Blair, including
Planning and executing safe and effective dry-land and on-snow practices and competitions throughout the season, which runs from November-February
Manage all logistics to orchestrate safe and effective training sessions in preparation for the competitive season
Supporting students through the high school and college admissions process, by collaborating with Blair’s admissions and college counseling offices
Building positive relationships with parents and students to maintain a strong team culture
Managing the ski coaching staff
Working closely with the athletic office in handling all practice / competition logistics (i.e. transportation, food, scheduling)
Engaging in professional learning in order to earn an Alpine 100-level certification through USSA, attending State Coaches’ meetings, getting certified or licensed in CDL, CPR, Heads Up Concussion, First Aid, USSA Quick Start, and Safesport Training
Maintaining and tuning equipment in the ski room
Typical job responsibilities include:
Teaching 4 sections each semester
Coaching an additional sport or activity in the fall or spring
Advising a group of 6 to 8 students
Providing weekly supervision for boarding students
