6th Grade Social Studies Teacher
Full Time – 1 year position – 2020-21 School year starting in August 2020, ending in June 2021.
Our Department: The Social Studies department is made up of ten teachers in grades 5-12 with experience from 7 to 25 years. Teachers are excited to work with students, to continuously refine their craft, and to live up to Overlake’s mission. Overlake provides a liberal arts focus in a community that is willing to learn from one another to build meaningful curriculum for students. Teachers value conversations on teaching, and on methods to better guide students. We embrace our different backgrounds and approaches to education but place a high premium on collaboration and continued learning and growth.
The department is seeking a 6th grade teacher. The current 6th grade curriculum is focused on United States history including units on Washington State history. This is a one year position and the expectation is that the person in this role next year will collaborate closely with the current 6th grade team (English, science and math), the Middle School head, who has taught this class for the last two years, and the Social Studies department chair.
Responsibilities: The sixth-grade teacher will teach four sections of social studies. Additional duties include overseeing a homeroom advisory of 11-12 students, sponsoring a club, and overseeing weekly study halls. Teachers are also required to attend 6th grade team meetings, department meetings, and middle school and all school faculty meetings.
Salary: Depending upon education and experience.

Qualifications: Ideal candidates would have a minimum of one year of teaching experience. Given this is a one-year position candidates who have recently completed their teacher education credentials are also encouraged to apply.
Additional qualifications include interest in the use of instructional technology, developing practices of cultural competencies, and an eagerness to collaborate with teachers.
