We are seeking an experienced and innovative Upper Elementary Science Teacher of grades 4-6 who will also teach one section of 6th grade math. This person will have deep appreciation for, and understanding of, upper elementary students. Seven Arrows teachers are responsible for implementing a high-quality, engaging academic program that supports the intellectual and social/emotional development of each child. The curriculum emphasizes a project-based, hands-on approach in which children learn to think critically and creatively. We are looking for candidates who have a science and math background; experience in classroom-based and outdoor education; and a solid understanding of the academic, social and emotional development of early elementary students.
The ideal candidate will have: -A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and elementary teaching certification -Minimum of three years experience teaching elementary grades -Demonstrated subject-matter competency through appropriate coursework and references -Experience with and passion for pedagogical practices grounded in hands-on, project-based learning and in creating appropriate standards-based curriculum in accordance with these philosophies -Experience developing interdisciplinary units and lessons using various curriculum development tools (Backwards Design, Understanding by Design, etc.) -Experience organizing and managing a student-centered classroom that includes age-appropriate and multi-culturally responsive classroom management practices -Experience creating and maintaining caring classroom environments where instructional time is dedicated to subject based-learning and exploration, community-building, conflict resolution, and empowering students to be agents for positive social and environmental change -Excellent communication/interpersonal skills as well as a desire to collaborate with all K-12 faculty and staff, students, and families to help maintain a positive whole school community -High level of professionalism, positive attitude, and a strong work ethic
