BASIC FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Superintendent, serves as the instructional leader and supervisor for the Jefferson Union High School District Adult Education program, including the Adult Transition Program. The Principal shall direct, monitor, and coordinate all Adult Education programs and activities involving staff, students, parents, and community members. The Principal of Adult Programs is responsible for the direction, assessment, and evaluation of student progress, instructional and adjunct programs, performance of assigned certificated and classified personnel, operation and maintenance of the facility, and the fiscal management of all funds. The principal identifies goals for various programs, delegates duties appropriately and serves as the immediate supervisor for designated employees.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Possess knowledge of: • School law and applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws, especially those involving adult education and special education • Non-discriminatory hiring practices, credential assignment and monitoring, and classified and certificated hiring • Research-based instructional strategies, formative and summative assessments, and state adopted curricular standards • Mandatory testing and accountability reporting
Knowledge and previous experience in: • Planning and implementing staff development activities • Developing and monitoring budgets • Monitoring individual education plans (IEPs) • Monitoring compliance related to adult education and special education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Organize, administer, and supervise the adult education/adult transition programs in accordance with the legal requirements of the office as set forth in the Education and Administrative Codes of the State of California, the rules and regulations of the Board of Trustees and suggestions and directives from the Superintendent of Schools and the Associate Superintendent of Education • Keep the Superintendent and other key personnel informed at all times on decisions made or action taken on matters of importance • Supervise, develop, administer, and implement the adult education/adult transition programs • Organize and coordinate curricular development and instructional improvement, including the selection of instructional materials • Coordinate the implementation of district courses of study for the JUHSD high school diploma • Organize appropriate professional development • Coordinate selection of instructional materials • Serve as a liaison between the Board of Trustees and/or district administration and other community groups, including the regional consortium for adult education • Prepare and monitor budgets for special projects and grants, including supplementary federal, state and local funds for adult education and workforce development • Prepare accountability reports and communicate results, including accreditation self-study and progress reports • Recruit, interview, hire and evaluate certificated and classified staff • Assign, direct, and assist staff in carrying out effective instructional programs through the analysis of data, the observation and evaluation of instructional practices, and instructional support • Provide a suitable and equitable learning environment conducive to the development of students’ concept of self and positive attitudes toward learning • Coordinate the maintenance and operation of the program facilities • Perform other related duties as assigned by District management
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING: • California Administrative Services Credential • California Teaching Credential • Master’s Degree • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and occasional weekends.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: • 3 years of successful school, adult education, or district administration experience • Minimum of five years adult education and/or secondary teaching experience • Special Education experience
