Cascades Academy is an independent pre-k through 12th-grade day school located in the beautiful mountain town of Bend, Oregon. The school was founded in 2003 and resides on an award-winning 39-acre campus located on the Deschutes River.
Cascades Academy is seeking an experienced Middle School math teacher. The ideal candidate has expertise teaching 6th-8th grade math as well as experience as a learning specialist. Please note: the school is also seeking a full-time social studies/humanities teacher and is open to considering a math / learning support / humanities position for the right, qualified candidate. Bachelor's degree is required, Master's degree is preferred
3-5 years experience teaching middle school math
A passion for teaching math and integrating STEM
Knowledge of current best practices in mathematical instruction
Previous middle school robotics experience (preferred)
A passion for teaching in a creative, integrated, and innovative way
Ability to work collaboratively with other middle school teachers
A commitment to experiential learning, outdoor education, and social-emotional learning
A desire to be part of a vibrant, “all-in” community of students, families, and faculty/staff
Curriculum and Instruction:
Deliver a cohesive curriculum that attends to both computational fluency and deep conceptual understanding of mathematics.
Differentiate instruction and assignments to meet the needs of each learner, while maintaining high standards for all students.
Provide timely feedback and mission-based grades to students via school LMS, and update grades on a weekly basis.
Communicate with parents on a regular basis regarding student performance.
Write narrative reports for students at the end of each semester that thoughtfully capture their successes and areas for growth.
Co-lead weekly Confluence activities, including service-learning, community partnerships, social responsibility engagements, and the Winter Sports (ski/snowboard) Program.
Co-lead Steelhead Week, Fall and Spring Traveling School trips, and a Spring’em interim short course.
Lead a club and/or elective that aligns with student interest.
Leadership and Mentorship:
Serve as a Middle School Advisor, meet with advisees on twice a week, and lead social-emotional learning and social responsibility activities.
Be available to advisees and advisees’ parents as needed to communicate and support each student’s academic and social-emotional progress.
Participate and co-lead parent conferences twice annually.
Uphold and enforce all school and US-specific policies, procedures, and practices.
Participate in all professional development days before, during, and after the school year.
Attend weekly faculty and division meetings.
Attend select school events and functions outside the normal school day, including fundraisers, presentations, board meetings, etc. (as indicated by the Head of School or Middle School Head).
Other duties as assigned by the Middle School Head or Head of School.
This is a salaried, benefits-eligible position. Full-time employment is contingent on the candidate’s experience and skillset. This position could also be structured as a part-time position if interested in the math-only portion of the job description. Please indicate preference in the cover letter. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s background and experience and will be competitive with similar NWAIS schools.
