Newtown Friends School is seeking dynamic candidates for a full time Middle School math, science, and STEM teacher. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, at least three years of experience teaching math or science, and a genuine affinity for students of this age group. An advanced degree is preferred, though not required.
Applicants must have a broad background in math and science topics from pre-algebra to algebra 1 and algebra 2, and a knowledge of an NGSS-based science curriculum. In addition to math and science classes, the successful candidate will also teach and develop coding, robotics, and digitally based elective classes. Newtown Friends School has been approved for candidacy to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, and the successful candidate will create and develop the courses necessary to meet the annual IB Design requirements.
Experience in providing students active, hands-on experiences incorporating digital media technology, and experience working with cooperative and differentiated instruction is desired. Familiarity with Quaker education is advantageous. This position involves being a homeroom teacher and an advisor. Candidates should possess an ability to mentor and support students' development of the necessary academic, social, and attitudinal skills to achieve 21st-Century leadership. The ability to coach is a plus.
