The Cape Henry Collegiate Lower School is a vibrant and caring school community. Specialist teachers are valued and important members of the Lower School Faculty. Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, Cape Henry Collegiate is seeking a Lower School Music Teacher to work in collaboration with grade level teachers and other members of the performing arts faculty in providing an exemplary educational experience in support of our school mission and core values.
The Lower School Music teacher will teach grades Prekindergarten - Grade 3 with the following responsibilities:
Lead a dynamic, multicultural and developmental music program for students in Prekindergarten to Grade 3.
Create a warm, inviting and inclusive environment which encourages students to share in the art of music.
Integrate creative movement, dance, vocal technique, percussion, ensemble, musical literacy, and solfege techniques are important aspects of music education with our youngest musicians.
Guide students in whole class or grade level groups encouraging each child to reach his/her potential.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop interdisciplinary units.
Collaborate with the Middle and Upper School performing arts faculty to support one another’s major performances and develop and grow the curriculum across divisions.
Design three winter and spring concert performances for students in Prekindergarten, Kindergarten-Grade 1 and Grades 2-3.
Provide narrative report card comments for students twice a year and communication with parents during the school year as needed.
Provide accompaniment for weekly Lower School assemblies.
Ability to accompany Upper School performances on the piano is an additional preference.
Supervise the safety of children during arrival, recess, lunchtime, and dismissal.
Prepare materials for lessons and ensure classroom spaces are safe, positive, attractive, and clean environments conducive to learning.
Assist students with social/emotional learning support and guide them to make good decisions with emphasis on treating all students with dignity and respect.
Maintain professional relationships with all members of the school community.
Potential for teaching instrument lessons one-on-one.
In addition, we seek a music teacher who is dependable, adaptable and flexible in order to meet the needs of all students in the class. He/she should be an excellent collaborator who can take initiative, anticipate the needs of students, and generate ideas in support of curricular and pastoral areas. Education and Experience:
A minimum of three to five years music teaching experience in an elementary school setting highly recommended.
BA/BS or MA in music, music education or performing arts from an accredited college or university preferred.
