Sidwell Friends School, a coeducational Quaker day school located in Bethesda, MD, seeks a long-term substitute for our Lower School Science program (1st-4th grades), beginning in January 2021 and ending in June 2021. The Lower School Science program is a “hands on” program that taps into children’s innate curiosity and wonder. Students are given a grounding in basic scientific knowledge while gaining confidence in their abilities to observe, ask questions, experiment and seek deeper understanding. The goal is for our students to appreciate science as an ongoing quest to understand and respect the wonders of the world and see themselves as active participants in that quest. Our ideal candidate has a strong background in elementary education with a solid background in science or science education. The candidate should have a collaborative spirit, an interest in building community within and beyond the classroom, a strong commitment to nurturing children’s individual talents and passions, and a commitment to our Quaker values.
A Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (or comparable degree) is required; advanced degree(s) preferred, along with a minimum of 3 years of successful elementary teaching experience.
The position begins in January of 2021 and ends June of 2021.
