Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school located in Washington, DC, seeks a part-time ceramics teacher to work with students in its Upper School (grades 9-12) division for the 2020-21 school year. Responsibilities include teaching multiple levels of ceramics courses, managing and maintaining the ceramics studio, supplies, kiln, and other equipment, and working collaboratively with other faculty.
The ideal candidate will have a clear understanding of the needs of the age group, be able to work cooperatively with a group of adults in a team setting, be comfortable in and excited about working with children from diverse backgrounds, and actively support the Quaker philosophy that underlies the School.
A Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or Studio Arts (Master’s preferred), experience teaching ceramics to high-school aged students, knowledge of kiln operation (proper loading, unloading, and operation of the kiln), knowledge of current ceramic techniques, and an enthusiasm for working with adolescents are required.
