The school is located within the city limits of Beijing, China, inside a new, state-of-the-art campus redesigned into an art community from old industrial spaces. We started in 2017 and have completed our first two years of school operations with close to 100 students and 40 staff. Moonshot Academy has three design principles that order our educational model development. 1. We are a progressive learning community, co-built by Learners, Parents, and Guardians. 2. We implement competency-based education to support authentic learning and positive social change. 3. We respect and support learners' personal development. We are currently the only school in China as a working group member of the Mastery Transcript Consortium (MTC) in America, pushing for an entirely accepted mastery-based transcript for college admissions. Students will progress through a series of Moonshot Honored courses (yearly cornerstone courses), interdisciplinary service-learning based projects, and subject and skill-specific tutorials to support their learning.
