Stevenson School, Carmel Campus is seeking an experienced, innovative educator to teach Spanish language and culture in the Elementary (PK-4) Division on a full-time basis. Elementary language teachers will collaborate with language teaching colleagues and elementary classroom teachers on the development and implementation of student-centered, proficiency-focused curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A typical elementary language teacher schedule will include 3-4 hours of classroom instruction per day with prep periods and breaks in between. Other responsibilities may include: teaching electives, supervising lunch and recess, working in the after-school program, or coaching. Stevenson School, Carmel Campus uses an 8-day rotating schedule, as such class hours and class times vary by the day.
Salary is competitive with similar schools in the area, commensurate with experience and education. A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree is preferred. At least three years of teaching experience is required. Advanced proficiency in Spanish and fluency in English are expected. Special training in language teaching, applied linguistics, bilingual education, elementary education or related fields is expected. In particular, familiarity with comprehension-based, communicative language teaching (CI, TPRS, OWL, etc) or willingness to be trained is desired.
