Position Vacancy - Visual Art Teacher, Grade 1 - 6
(Grades 1 st grade - 6th grade; 5 Days / Week; One year position/ begins August 31, 2020)
The Bank Street School for Children is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and team-oriented visual art / integrated arts teacher, who is knowledgeable of the integration of art and social studies as well as an advocate for how the visual arts foster the healthy development of children of all ages and learning styles. An interest in professional growth is expected.
1. Bachelor's degree in art or equivalent education. Master’s degree in art education preferable. 2. Facility with both two and three-dimensional art materials. Experience with and interdisciplinary work a must. 3. Knowledge of child development and curriculum in the visual arts. 3. At least three years teaching visual arts (painting, mural making, collage, construction, drawing, crafts) and sculpture (clay, wire, paper mache, model making, dioramas, wood-working). 4. Ability to work collaboratively and an interest and experience in an interdisciplinary approach to education.
Teaching integrated art classes (2nd grade-6th grade) using a defined curriculum.
Collaboratively developing and implementing curriculum reflecting child development, child-centered education, diversity, and social justice.
Collaborating with art department while assisting and teaching woodshop.
Collaborating with classroom teachers (2nd grade-6th grade) around arts integration.
Writing narrative reports.
Organizing and maintaining the art studio, including children’s portfolios.
Installing, labeling, and updating exhibits of children’s artwork for all classes.
Making supply orders and working within a given budget.
Regular school division, art department, supervisor, and subject area leader meetings.
Communicating with parents when needed including curriculum night.
