Position Vacancy - Physical Education TeacherFull timeQUALIFICATIONS1. Bachelor's degree 2. Master's degree desirable 3. Three years teaching experience 4. Coaching experience is a plus 5. Applicant should understand the goals and philosophy of progressive education and be committed to making P.E. accessible to all students. FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESWork with Children:· Teach P.E. classes to children 5-14 years of age in a wide range of activities. The greatest proportion of class time is spent in organized, cooperative games and developing the physical and social skills in team sports, which are introduced at different age levels. · Demonstrate and model a wide variety of sport, movement, and fitness skills used in PE classes and athletic teams. · Utilize an array of assessment methods and maintain records of assessment for PE classes. · Coach athletic teams in all three seasons would be a possibility depending on school need and individual availability. Curriculum Development: · While there is a curriculum in place, there is much flexibility to enable prospective teachers to take advantage of their particular strengths. Staff: · An interest in one’s own professional growth is expected. Each teacher meets bi-weekly with their supervisor and participates in PE department planning and collaboration. Parents: · Teachers are required to meet with parents and/or classroom teachers when needed.
